Skincare isn’t expensive, and other less-known facts for caring your skin

February 22, 2023

Good skin is very important and when it comes to skin treatment and skin care products, it’s important for us to be extra cautious. The skin protects our muscles, bones and internal organs, being the largest organ of the body and also its outermost layer. The skin also helps in sensing cold, hot, and other sensations. If our skin is doing so much for us, why cannot spare some time for our skincare too?

But to care for our skin properly, we should not fall for certain myths that pass off as facts in popular discourse.

Myth#1 Skin care is expensive

Truth: It’s extremely affordable

Skincare is no more expensive, thanks to the easy availability of relevant products and technology in the market.  But one should invest in good quality products and services. These options help in rejuvenating the skin, making them glowy and smoother.

If an individual reaches out to the right dermatologist, then he or she can get the right advice regarding their skin. If one is suffering from a severe skin condition there are treatments available that one can go for too.

Myth #2: Skincare is needed only in old age

Truth: It’s needed at all ages

It is a myth that “skin treatment is needed only when you become old”. By starting skin care early, you slow down the process of visible ageing. One should keep the skin healthy with a good diet, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight more than is warranted.

When it comes to skin, people think only of fair skin. For that reason, they spend lots of money on buying creams. But remember, skin is not a synonym for fairness. It is about how healthy and glowy it is.

Myth #3: Only a single care regimen for everyone

Truth: Care according to skin types and requirements

One should understand their skin, skin-related concerns, type of skin and requirements of the skin. Based on these aspects, choose the products and treatments.

The three things you should start with for basic skincare are cleansing, toning and moisturising. One should start the day by cleaning the face with a good cleanser and then toning, followed by applying moisturiser and sunscreen.

The skincare products should be chosen according to skin type and skin condition like dry, oily, neutral etc. Sunscreen is a must in a skincare regimen because sun rays can easily damage and leave sunspots on the skin. One should avoid using harsh products even if they promise immediate results- they probably won’t deliver on that promise.

Problems your skin can face

When we are young, our skin produces much collagen and elastin but as we age it starts maturing, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin. Problems like hyperpigmentation, skin dryness, dark circles, discolouration, redness, acne, pimples etc become very common when an individual ignores the skin. Serious problems such as eczema or psoriasis also occur due to extremely dry conditions of the skin.
